CSI at HNI

On Monday Senior Constable Lock talked to Nepia House about his role in solving crime in Hawke's Bay.  He enthralled the House with the methods he uses to solve crime from collecting DNA to analysing footprints.

He had set up a crime scene for us to all look at to try to recognise the clues he had left for us. It was intriguing that some of us missed some of the evidence but others were able to identify them easily. It made some of us aware as to what we see as important, others look at in to totally different perspective.

There were some fantastic questions as the afternoon  progressed.  Senior Constable Lock certainly helped us to consider the ideas in the work that we are doing on forensic science in class.

During interval we all spend time reading from a range of sources and texts.  At the moment there are quite a few students reading from an app called 'Wattpad'.

 Some students prefer to browse through the Internet on sites such as Wonderopolis, Dogonews, Stuff.com where they can read nonfiction material.

From today onwards there are a few more options with an array of novels being included in the class library of resources. These are part of the novels we have for our reading programme.  We will be discussing our books in Literature Circles and considering other peoples' perspectives on the books..

Candice's Cheerleading Achievement

A few weeks ago there were auditions for New Zealand's international level 4.2 cheerleading team to go to Hawaii next year. In cheerleading there are 6 levels, Level 1 (little kids), level 2 (intermediate age) level 3 (high school), level 4 (internationals going overseas for comps), level 5-6 (worlds, biggest cheer comp ever); as the levels get higher the stunts get harder and more complicated.

I went to the tryouts, I was very Nervous but I had Sahmara (room 13) trying out for it with me and we got to work in the same stunt group which calmed my nerves a bit. We had to do stunts we had never even thought about doing before, they were so fun and exhilarating!

All week we had been doubting ourselves while we were waiting for the results to see who got in.

Every morning and afternoon I kept pestering mum to check her emails but there was nothing until one Friday afternoon when mum gave me the most exciting news ever… I’m going to Hawaii next year for cheerleading!

Walt: use pointillism techniques to create  a scene or object.

Success Criteria:

• to create an image using dots
• blending colours within the dots
• made different shades of colour
• made different tones of colour
• can make the image more realistic  

  with different colours.

Pointilism Art

This art work was created by Sam using the old style of Pointillism. He made it by using cotton buds 

dipped in a range of colours to help to create the depth and detail in his scene. It is very much like a Rembrandt picture judging by the colours he has chosen.
