The Cultural Exchange with Masterton Intermediate School

Masterton Intermediate School welcomed H.N.I on to their school after the 3 hour long trip on the bus. I was surprised how many students there were, around 120 people they had almost and we had only 75 people in our whole cultural exchange.

Everyone from Choir, Orchestra and Kapa Haka from both schools were sat in Masterton’s Hall. ‘Kihkihi’ came up on screen and the introduction entered our ears. The low and high parts came in at different times. After going through our combined item the different groups split up.

Our Choir practiced our individual pieces, while Masterton decided what songs they will be singing. We then joined together and practiced the combined choir item, ‘Think Of Me’.

M.I.S and H.N.l Kapa Haka went to Solway Primary to perform/ practise. Then went back to M.I.S to grab our bags to go back to Mawley Park and unpack.

Everybody got changed and we walked out of Mawley Park to go ten pin bowling. After an hour of ten pin bowling we went back and ate dinner which was pizza and lasagne. Everybody got ready to go to M.I.S  yet again, for our formal performance in front parents and family from Masterton.

In the morning at Mawley Park, we were all very sad because it meant we had to leave in a couple of hours. We were being rushed out of our cabins, packing everything we had, onto the bus.

The Talent quest begun with their rock band not knowing that one of my fellow friends (Diamond) were in the band. I was cheering him on the whole time, the principal made us have singing competitions after each performance. It was near the end of the talent show and it was Jaevarn’s turn to sing and I was singing along the songs with him.

H.N.I had to evacuate the hall but it was to hard to leave behind all the friends that we had made, I almost had tears watering down my face on the way out to the bus with Masterton following behind us. I nearly didn’t get on the bus because I was too busy saying my good byes and paying my respects to My fellow Masterton students that I made in the past two days.

Mrs Hurley called at me to get in the bus, while I found my seat,M.I.S was doing the haka and I was doing it with them to stop me from being sad and crying, but it didn’t help. I was sad the whole way back home.

CSI at HNI

On Monday Senior Constable Lock talked to Nepia House about his role in solving crime in Hawke's Bay.  He enthralled the House with the methods he uses to solve crime from collecting DNA to analysing footprints.

He had set up a crime scene for us to all look at to try to recognise the clues he had left for us. It was intriguing that some of us missed some of the evidence but others were able to identify them easily. It made some of us aware as to what we see as important, others look at in to totally different perspective.

There were some fantastic questions as the afternoon  progressed.  Senior Constable Lock certainly helped us to consider the ideas in the work that we are doing on forensic science in class.

Enjoying the sun on our backs while we read and eat at interval.

During interval we all spend time reading from a range of sources and texts.  At the moment there are quite a few students reading from an app called 'Wattpad'.

Some students prefer to browse through the Internet on sites such as Wonderopolis, Dogonews, Stuff.com where they can read nonfiction material.

From today onwards there are a few more options with an array of novels being included in the class library of resources. These are part of the novels we have for our reading programme.  We will be discussing our books in Literature Circles and considering other peoples' perspectives on the books..

Candice's Cheerleading Achievement

A few weeks ago there were auditions for New Zealand's international level 4.2 cheerleading team to go to Hawaii next year. In cheerleading there are 6 levels, Level 1 (little kids), level 2 (intermediate age) level 3 (high school), level 4 (internationals going overseas for comps), level 5-6 (worlds, biggest cheer comp ever); as the levels get higher the stunts get harder and more complicated.cheer.jpg

I went to the tryouts, I was very Nervous but I had Sahmara (room 13) trying out for it with me and we got to work in the same stunt group which calmed my nerves a bit. We had to do stunts we had never even thought about doing before, they were so fun and exhilarating!

All week we had been doubting ourselves while we were waiting for the results to see who got in.
Every morning and afternoon I kept pestering mum to check her emails but there was nothing until one Friday afternoon when mum gave me the most exciting news ever… I’m going to Hawaii next year for cheerleading!

Pointilism Art

This art work was created by Sam using the old style of Pointillism. He made it by using cotton buds
dipped in a range of colours to help to create the depth and detail in his scene. It is very much like a Rembrandt picture judging by the colours he has chosen.
