Youth Futures Day

On Thursday we had the Youth Futures Day.
We had fourteen different employers and organisations come to HNI to show and explain to us what they jobs involved.  The Hastings District Council had quite a few different career options to show us, ranging from recycling to Youth Development organisers. Higgins digger operating was popular, along with the Armed Defense speaker.

Many students were impressed with the two engineers who shared their knowledge and skills about bridge building.  Both the ladies were able to explain clearly to the listeners how the construction of the bridge impacted on it's strength.

Alyssa wrestling with a wooden chair, trying to put it together.

Akayla aiming at a wooden frame with the fire hose.  Such power!

Hannah trying to keep her hands still in order to move the tool in her hand, around the wire. It was not an easy feat.

Jesse giving the finishing touches to the planter box he helped to create. The box now contains plants for HNI  students to enjoy.

Hannah trying to wrestle with a piece of wire in order to attach it to the fence post.

Vincent and Juan talking to the engineers about the different construction of bridges. They were impressed by the strength of an arch bridge.

Sapphire in control of a digger.  She managed to lift out six bottles in one scoop from the trough.
