Changemaker Groups

Lachy, Josh, Nav, George and Jodeci with their pile of cans ready for the Salvation Army.

Alannah, Eleanor and Savahna with their collection of cell phones sourced from HNI over the period of their Inquiry task.  They learnt a lot about themselves and the need to be organised as well.  Quintin was also in this group.

Kayla, Charyzma and Hannah with their donations for the Hastings Women's Refuge. There were some very generous students and staff members who donated goods for women and children in need. Bailey was also in this group as well.

Kayla, outside the Hastings Refuge drop off point during the holidays. The staff members were delighted at the group's efforts and outcomes of their work.

Kayla was very pleased to be part of this changemaker action.  As she said later, it was not about the expectation of getting anything back after doing this, it was the helping out someone else.

There are still groups to share their findings and efforts, yet to be shared with the class and organisations they worked towards helping.

In the concept of being a 'Changemaker,'  each student had to consider others over themselves, which meant for some of them, a great deal of soul searching. This covered to how they would work together, what they aimed to achieve as well as what they would learn about themselves, their peers and the world around them.  The self-assessment of this work reflected some deep thinking and reconsidering of initial ideas and processes that were carried out.
It was certainly a huge learning curve for some of the students in Room 17 during term 3.
